Safe Handling
Guidelines
Essential guidelines for commercial divers — correct technique prevents injury and equipment damage.
Correct Technique Prevents Injury
Follow these guidelines to ensure safe and effective use of your diving magnets.
Attaching
Before placing the magnet, make sure the area is clean with no obstructions present.
With the magnet at a 45° angle, place the edge of the pot housing against the area where the magnet is intended to be attached.
Bring the handle part downwards while maintaining control of the pull force until the magnet is fully attached.
Before any load is applied, check that the face of the magnet is flush and in full contact with the ferromagnetic material with no obstructions.
Detaching
Detach the magnet by pulling upward on the rear end of the handle, away from the magnetic surface.
All working load must be applied through the eye nut only. The handle is designed solely to assist with controlled removal and positioning. Applying load to the handle instead of the eye nut may cause the magnet to release unexpectedly.
Always
Always rinse "Diver Magnets" with fresh water after contact with salt water and remove any moisture directly afterwards.
Always keep the surface of the magnet clean and remove any iron filings or small metal particles. Wipe frequently with a wire brush or rag.
Always store magnets in a low humidity and mild temperature environment, away from sensitive electrical equipment.
Always check that the eye nut and handle are tight before use — a loose eye nut can back off under load or vibration.
Always keep magnets away from heat above 80 °C, such as welding, cutting or engine rooms — high heat permanently weakens the magnet.
Do Not
Do not bring the magnet near steel, tools or other magnets without a firm grip — they snap together without warning and cause pinch and crush injuries.
Do not use the magnet for lifting or rigging, or suspend a load over people — it is not certified lifting gear.
Do not drop the magnet or let it strike hard surfaces or other magnets — impacts chip the coating and can crack the magnet.
Do not machine, cut, drill or grind a magnet — the dust is flammable and can ignite.
Do not damage the plastic face or the pot's plating — once the seal is broken, the magnet and pot will corrode, and a cracked magnet must be retired.
Neodymium Magnet Hazards
IMPORTANT — READ BEFORE USE. Neodymium magnets are extremely strong. Improper handling can cause injury, equipment damage, or serious hazards.
Crushing Hazard
Can snap together violently causing severe crushing injuries to fingers and hands.
ISO 7010 · W024Not a Toy
Keep away from children and pets at all times. Choking and internal injury hazard if swallowed.
ISO 7010 · W001Field Hazards
Strong magnetic fields affect pacemakers, medical implants, credit cards and electronics.
ISO 7010 · W006 + P007Handling & Storage
- Slide magnets together, never let them snap
- Use non-magnetic spacers for separation
- Store in cool, dry place with protective packaging
- Max temp ~80°C, avoid heat/flame
- Rinse after saltwater use, dry thoroughly
- Can corrode if coating damaged
Diving Safety
- Use safety lanyards to prevent loss
- Test attachment on surface first
- Beware strong pull near metal structures
- Keep away from dive computers/compasses
- Plan exit strategy before attaching
Machining & Dust
- Never machine, cut, drill or grind a magnet.
- Magnet dust is highly flammable
- Never drop - can cause internal cracking
- Keep protective coating intact — damaged coating accelerates corrosion
Health & Interference
- Medical Devices:Keep away from pacemakers, ICDs and insulin pumps. Consult a doctor if you have any implants.
- Allergies:Coatings may contain nickel — avoid prolonged skin contact if sensitive.
- Dive Computers:Strong fields damage dive computers, cameras and compasses — maintain safe distance.
- Data & Cards:Keep away from credit cards, magnetic ID and all data storage devices.
Do's
Use PPE when handling larger magnets
Keep away from electronics and medical devices
Store in cool, dry place with packaging
Inspect regularly for damage
Rinse with fresh water after every saltwater use
Test attachment on surface before submerging
Don'ts
Never let magnets collide uncontrollably
Never machine, cut, drill or grind a magnet.
Don't allow children/pets access
Don't use for lifting or rigging — not certified lifting gear
Don't remove or damage the protective coating
Swallowed magnets cause life-threatening internal perforations — seek immediate medical help. If a magnet interferes with a medical device, move away from the source immediately and call emergency services.
Pinch or Crush Injury
Slide magnets apart parallel — do not pull directly
Apply ice to reduce swelling
Seek medical attention for severe injuries
Breakage
Put on PPE before handling fragments
Collect all pieces carefully to avoid cuts
Do not grind or create dust — highly flammable
Ingestion or Medical Device
Seek immediate emergency medical help
Do not wait for symptoms to appear
Inform medical staff magnets were involved
